This year?s Lions Garforth Beer Festival takes place on 11th July from noon to 9pm at Garforth Country Club. Tickets are ?10 from Garforth Country Club, Central Fisheries Garforth, Gaping Goose or Hillton's Fish and Chip Shop

The 50th Annual Sherburn in Elmet Gala takes place from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, May 16th 2026 at Eversley Park field. Family fun, entertainment, performances, singers, dancers, stalls, food, a climbing wall, dog show, music, the new Fun zone , parade through the village and so much more.

Sherburn in Elmet Town Council has successfully secured ?41,976 from the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority (Y&NYCA)?s Vibrant and Sustainable High Streets Fund. The grant will support an ambitious new project to deliver a year-round programme of events and markets at the heart of the High Street.

2026-04-26   Garforth Postal Delivery Office Changes

Due to essential improvement works at the Garforth Delivery Office, from Monday, 27 April the opening times for the Customer Service Point will be temporarily changing to: Monday - Friday: 4 pm - 6 pm, Saturday: 2 pm - 6 pm. 

 

2026-04-26   Blyth Town 2-4 Garforth Town

A dramatic final day full of twists and turns ended with relegation for Blyth Town. Owen Marshall scored for Garforth after just two minutes. Cameron Gascoigne restored parity to keep it level at half time. Garforth subs Luke Aldrich and Daniel Ramsden netted late on. Adam Johnsons? added time goal made it briefly interesting, before Steven Jeff compounded Blyths? fate with a goal just before the final whistle. Garforth finished ninth in the league with 55 points.

Garforth Town play their final game of the season away to Blyth Town on Saturday 25th April at 3pm. A supporters coach leaves Garforth Town clubhouse at 11am. Tickets are ?20. U16s must be accompanied by an adult.

Garforth Peace Project are holding a fundraising concert at Barley Hill Working Men?s Club on Saturday 25th April at 7pm. Doors open at 6.30pm. Garforth Community Choir and Garforth Ukelele Players will be performing. Tickets available on the door 

 

2026-04-24   North of England Pipe Band Competition

Lotherton Hall is hosting the North of England Pipe Band Competition on Sunday 24th May from 10am to 5pm. Audiences can look forward to a spineR09;tingling showcase of musical skill, precision, and showmanship, with competing bands performing in full Highland dress. 

 

2026-04-24   Distinguished Gentleman?s Ride 2026

The Distinguished Gentleman?s Ride will leave Garforth Town Football Club at around 12pm on Sunday 17th May. The event supports the Movember Foundation, raising funds for men?s mental health and prostate cancer. The event opens at 10am to look at the classic motorcycles taking part.

Two goals from Charlie Marshall on Saturday took him into double figures for the season and also earned him the Tudor Property man of the match. Ninety minutes worth of excitement was crammed into the first half of an enthralling end of season encounter. 

 

2026-04-22   Rubbish Idea

A new registration scheme designed to improve access to North Yorkshire?s household waste recycling centres (HWRCs) and ensure the service is used fairly by residents will go live later this month. From Monday, 27th April, residents will need to register their name, address and vehicle before visiting any of the county?s 20 HWRCs. Registration is free, takes a couple of minutes, and lasts for three years.

2026-04-18   Windfarm Community Fund

Grants are available from Hook Moor Windfarm Community Fund. This is for grants that benefit the people of Micklefield and Aberford there is over ?20.000 in the fund as it is under subscribed (not enough people/groups applying). There are 2 grants to apply for one for up to ?1000 and the other for up to ?3000 but in special circumstances more has been awarded.

Due to the Closure of the Ridge Road and the resulting traffic increase in Micklefield a new temporary pedestrian crossing has been installed at Micklefield Primary School. Additional traffic lights will also be installed at the school?s car park entrance to help drivers leaving the car park.

2026-04-12   The Billywoods Chronicles: The Panacea

Author Caroline Jones, originally from Kippax but now living in Australia has written a fantasy novel called The Billywoods Chronicles: The Panacea. It is inspired by the Billywoods, Townclose Hills nature reserve, where she used to play as a young child. The book, published by Hawkeye Publishing, will be available from 17th May.

Garforth suffered a third 1-0 defeat in a row in their Easter Monday derby in front of a crowd of over 600. A second half header was enough to win it. Rinor Ejupi almost snatched an equaliser in the 90th minute, only to see his fierce free kick tipped over the bar.

2026-04-07   Garforth Feastival Cancelled for Ever

Another of Garforth?s annual community events has disappeared. This year?s Feastival has been cancelled after the General Manager of Scott Hall and Garforth Leisure Centres overturned the decision to allow Feastival to proceed during the Leisure Centre?s opening hours. Without a venue, Feastival organisers feel they can no longer provide this free event going forward. This cancellation follows on from the disappearance of the annual community Bonfire and Firework Display.

The recent charity car wash at Garforth Fire Station raised a magnificent ?1,136 for the Firefighters charity.

Bishop Auckland arrested a four game losing streak with a hard-fought one nil win. Wayne Whitfields? twenty five yard goal midway through the first half was a worthy winner in a game of few chances.

Garforth Town AFC have announced the signing of a new 25-year lease on its Brierlands Lane ground, securing the club's home and providing the platform to build on three years of significant progress on and off the pitch.

Garforth extended their unbeaten run on Saturday with an excellent away draw at promotion chasing Dunston. Luke Aldrich gave Garforth the lead on fifty-three minutes and Dunston equalised through a late penalty.

2026-03-22   Path Progresses

At the latest Kippax Parish Council meeting it was agreed to accept the quote of ?74,000 from Leeds City Council parks department and provide funding for a path at Kippax Common. Kippax Ward Councillors agreed to provide ?8,000 towards this cost.

On 28th April England?s first World Peace Flame Monument here in Garforth, Leeds, will be 9 years old. Unfortunately, the current housing for the lamp is too restricted for a new solar system to be housed adequately. So, on this 9th Anniversary our current Lord Mayor, Cllr. Dan Cohen, Local Councillors and local schools will unveil a new updated monument at approximately 11.30am.

2026-03-17   Gun Incident in Garforth

On Sunday evening police were called to reports of men fighting in Kennet Lane, Garforth. Officers, including armed response, attended after a gun was reported. A search of a vehicle at the scene recovered what turned out to be a BB gun. One man was arrested on suspicion of assault. Further checks led to a second man being arrested. Both are in custody as Leeds CID continue their investigation.

2026-03-16   Garforth Town 3-1 Bradford Park Avenue

Garforth Town picked up their second home win in a week on Saturday with a well-deserved victory over Bradford Park Avenue. Owen Marshall capitalised when goalkeeper Campbell could only palm a header into his path on eleven minutes. Adam Haw equalised with his first chance of the match on twenty-six minutes to level it up going into the break. A Charlie Marshall double put the Miners into an unassailable lead, which rarely looked threatened.

Garforth recorded a deserved win on a cold Tuesday night at the Bannister Prentice Stadium. A couple of ricochets off players gave the Miners the opening goal on thirty-seven minutes. Consett?s first effort brought about an equaliser on fifty-four minutes. Substitute Mutty fired a low shot across the keeper and inside the far post for the winner.

Garforth and District Lions are holding a Car Boot Sale from 8am till noon on Easter Sunday 5th April in the Tesco Carpark in Garforth. Sellers are ?10 for a van, ?5 for a car with set up from 7am. For buyers entry is free.

2026-03-13   Town Investment Plan

Yorkshire Council is developing a Town Investment Plan (TIP) for Sherburn-in-Elmet as part of a regeneration programme across 32 towns in the County. The plans will help guide future funding bids, build communities and ensure funding is targeted to local priorities. Public consultation sessions will be held on Tuesday 15th March, 1pm to 3pm at Sherburn Old Girls School Community Centre (alongside the Cuppa Connect session) and Monday 23rd March, 2:30pm to 4:30pm at Sherburn and Villages Community Library.
